Drunken Carpenter Gets 20 Years for Child Defilement
Court Hears Harrowing Details of Child's Ordeal
- Guilty plea leads to 20-year sentence
- Witness intervention crucial in stopping assault
- Medical report confirms defilement
A 39-year-old carpenter, Peter Asamoah, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with hard labor after pleading guilty to defiling the nine-year-old daughter of his former partner.
The crime occurred in Yareyeya, a community within the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality. Asamoah claimed he was intoxicated at the time of the offense and asked the Tarkwa Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu, for leniency.
The prosecution, led by Police Chief Inspector David Owusu, explained that the victim’s 34-year-old mother had left her daughter home alone on November 7, 2024.
Asamoah then lured the child into his home and sexually assaulted her. A witness, Kwakye, heard the girl’s cries and intervened, catching Asamoah in the act.
Initially afraid to speak up, the victim eventually told her mother about the assault on November 10th. After confronting Asamoah, who confessed and begged for forgiveness, the mother reported the incident to a nearby police officer.
Asamoah was arrested and taken to the Western Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tarkwa.
A medical examination at Apinto Government Hospital confirmed the defilement.
