  • Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo exits through the back door amidst chaos
  • Calm restored; 58 delegates proceed to vote under EC oversight

The Greater Accra Council of State election, held on Tuesday, February 11, briefly descended into chaos when police barred aspirant Musah Ziyad from entering the polling room with an entourage.

The disruption prompted Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, to exit through the back door amidst the commotion.

Order was later restored, allowing the election to proceed smoothly under the supervision of the Electoral Commission (EC). According to Greater Accra Regional EC Director Mrs. Gladys Pinkrah, the voting process continued without further incidents.

Out of 13 candidates contesting, three—including Musah Ziyad—have withdrawn from the race, leaving 10 aspirants competing for the Council of State seat. A total of 58 delegates are expected to cast their ballots.

This incident mirrors tensions observed in the Ashanti Region, where elections were temporarily suspended after heavily built men disrupted proceedings, damaged election materials, and assaulted journalists.

The Council of State, established under Articles 89 to 92 of the 1992 Constitution, serves as an advisory body to counsel the President in executing his duties.
