Renowned pollster and lead researcher at Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa, has urged former President John Mahama not to remove the current Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, if he returns to power.
Dankwa praised Dampare’s leadership and performance, describing him as the most popular security chief in recent history.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, he also called on the Supreme Court to swiftly rule on the pending case regarding the removal of security heads by an incoming president.
“The Supreme Court reserves the right to decide which cases to expedite. Given the upcoming election, I would have thought this issue would be treated as urgent to provide clarity for any new government before taking action,” he wrote.
Expressing concern over the delay, Dankwa questioned why the case had not been prioritized, especially amid reports that the IGP’s position is at risk.
“The court handled other cases with urgency, yet they let this linger. Now, we are hearing that the IGP is on the chopping block. Did they not foresee this, or did they assume the government wouldn’t change?” he asked.
Citing past instances of delayed justice, including the controversial Domelevo case, Dankwa stressed the need for fairness and swift judicial decisions.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. I don’t know the details of the IGP’s case, but he is the most popular IGP in recent history. If I were the president, I wouldn’t fire him,” he declared.
His comments align with similar concerns raised by Imani Ghana, which has also warned against the reported plans to remove Dr. Dampare.
