Declan Rice stole the show with two stunning free kicks, while Mikel Merino added a clinical striker’s finish to lead Arsenal to a 3-0 victory over reigning champions Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
The Gunners dominated the first half as Real Madrid, the competition’s record-holder, struggled to find their rhythm. Eduardo Camavinga was nearly involved in a disastrous own goal, and Arsenal’s Thomas Partey saw a shot saved by Thibaut Courtois.
