Dampare Still an Asset – Kwakye Ofosu Supports Leadership Change

Former Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu acknowledges Dr. Dampare’s contributions, supports Mahama’s security sector reforms, and emphasizes the routine nature of leadership changes.

Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has praised the contributions of ex-Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, emphasizing his continued value and expertise in security affairs.

Dr. Dampare was removed from office by President John Dramani Mahama as part of broader security sector reforms. His successor, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, was officially sworn in on Friday, March 14.

Having served as IGP since 2021, Dr. Dampare is recognized for implementing key policing reforms, including strengthening community engagement and enhancing internal discipline within the police service.

Commenting on the transition, Kwakye Ofosu stated, “We can only wish Dampare well and appreciate his service. With his experience, he remains valuable and should be in high demand in other areas that require his expertise. This is a routine leadership change.”

He further noted that such decisions fall within the President’s authority, adding, “A new leader often realigns key institutions like the security services to fit their vision. This is not personal; it is simply governance.”
