The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Electoral Commission (EC) are set to appear in court today, December 31, to settle the ongoing dispute over the collation of election results in key constituencies, including Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central.

This legal confrontation follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned a High Court decision. The High Court had previously granted an application from the NPP, compelling the EC to re-collate results in certain constituencies that had initially been declared in favour of the NDC. As a result, the EC subsequently declared NPP candidates victorious in seven constituencies.

The NDC, dissatisfied with these re-collations, filed a petition with the Supreme Court, arguing that the rights of their candidates to natural justice had been violated since they were not given an opportunity to be heard at the High Court. The NDC also accused the presiding judge of bias in handling the case.

The Supreme Court, in its ruling, sided with the NDC, agreeing that their candidates’ rights had been breached, and overturned the High Court’s decision.

However, the court found no evidence of bias by the judge, but directed that the case be reassigned to a new judge for further proceedings.

As a result, the High Court is now responsible for determining the outcome of the disputed constituencies—Techiman South, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central—during its session today.
