The Court of Appeal has scheduled Thursday, January 30, 2025, to rule on the prosecution’s appeal regarding the High Court’s order for investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas to unmask before former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwasi Nyantakyi, prior to testifying in an open court.

A three-judge panel, led by Justice Anthony Oppong, set the date after the involved parties submitted their written arguments by December 16, 2024. Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah Boafo and Justice Aboagye Tandoh are also part of the panel, which will determine whether the trial can proceed or not.

The High Court initially ordered Anas to reveal his identity to the accused in chambers on May 17, 2023, but the journalist refused to comply, causing a delay in the trial. The prosecution then appealed the decision, leaving the case on hold until the Court of Appeal’s verdict is reached.

In a recent hearing on January 14, 2025, the case was adjourned to February 13, 2025. Defense lawyer Baffour Gyau Bonsu Ashia requested the adjournment, awaiting the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the matter.

Nyantakyi and Abdulai Alhassan face fraud and conspiracy charges related to the corruption exposed in Anas’ documentary, Number 12. Both have pleaded not guilty. The trial’s future now hinges on the Court of Appeal’s decision on January 30.
