The Awutu Bereku District Police Command has arrested a couple for allegedly chaining and abandoning their nine-year-old son in a bush at Gomoa Nkwantanan.

While the exact motive behind the act remains unclear, sources suggest the child was punished for what was described as his “stubbornness.”

James Mensah, a local resident who rescued the boy, shared his experience of finding the child in the bush, chained and left without food for two days.

“I found the boy in the bush, his leg chained. When I asked why he had a chain on, he told me that his father had chained him and left him there to die. I immediately reported the matter to the Awutu Bereku Police,” Mensah said. “The father was called in by the police and has since been detained for further investigation.”

The couple, identified as 35-year-old Bismark Odoi and 33-year-old Saviour Arthur, went into hiding following the incident but were later apprehended by the police for questioning.

The child explained that his punishment began after he arrived late to school. “I didn’t get to school on time, and my father asked me why. I tried to explain, but he insisted I be punished. He then chained my leg and took me to the bush, where he left me for two days, chained to a tree,” the boy recounted.

The police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
