The Electoral Commission (EC) conducted nationwide Council of State elections yesterday, February 11, 2025, with 155 candidates, including 10 women, vying for seats across all 16 regions.
The elections, conducted by an Electoral College system, took place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at regional coordinating councils.
However, the Ashanti Region’s election turned chaotic when a group of unidentified thugs stormed the voting center, disrupting the sorting and counting process.
Lawson News reporter Papa Dat revealed that the assailants overturned tables, destroyed ballot boxes, and scattered voting materials, forcing officials to suspend the process.
Speaking on Lawson TV’s Ghana Se Sen Morning Show, Ashanti Regional EC Director Mr. Osei Nsiah recounted the ordeal, stating that the process started smoothly until thugs disrupted the counting midway.
“The ballot boxes, ballot papers, and the entire process were destroyed. We couldn’t declare a winner because the process was truncated. The next decision will come from the National EC,” he explained.
Expressing his frustration, Mr. Nsiah added, “I was highly surprised and disappointed because this is a non-partisan election.
