Committee Unveils Key Recommendations for ECG, NEDCo Privatization
Three Strategic Models Proposed to Transform Ghana’s Power Distribution Sector

- The committee proposed Entity Concession, Multiple Lease, and Service Franchise
- The recommendations target addressing challenges faced by ECG and NEDCo
- The Minister of Energy and Green Transition received the report for further consideration
A Technical Committee tasked with advising the government on Private Sector Participation (PSP) in the power distribution sectors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has presented its report to the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor.
The committee outlined three key recommendations aimed at tackling the challenges faced by both ECG and NEDCo.
The proposed strategies include:
-
Entity Concession: A complete handover of the distribution business to a private concessionaire.
-
Multiple Lease: Dividing the country’s distribution system into separate parts and awarding them individually.
-
Service Franchise: Entrusting private sector operators to manage the low voltage networks from the distribution transformer to consumers’ homes and businesses.
Committee Chairman Jabesh Amissah-Arthur emphasized these strategies during a meeting with Minister Jinapor, urging the adoption of these solutions to improve efficiency and service delivery.
