The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has launched a nationwide strike to protest the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

The strike, which begins on Thursday, February 20, 2025, stems from a resolution made by CLOGSAG’s National Executive Council (NEC) during a meeting on February 11, 2025.

The council expressed concerns over the inclusion of politically exposed individuals in the Civil Service and Local Government positions, citing Mr. Botchway’s appointment as a clear instance of this practice.

In a press release dated February 13, 2025, Isaac Bampoe Addo, Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, emphasized that the strike action would proceed if Mr. Botchway assumed office. True to their stance, Mr. Botchway officially took up his role on February 12, 2025, prompting the association to activate the strike plan.

“The Association has no option but to call for a nationwide strike from Thursday, February 20, 2025,” the release stated.

CLOGSAG has urged all its members to remain at home until further notice, awaiting a resolution. The government has yet to issue an official response to this development.
