Claims That NPP Neglects Youth Leadership Are Misguided – Oheneba Nana Asiedu

  • Oheneba urged young members of the NPP to remain dedicated and loyal

Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a presenter on Wontumi Radio and Television, has refuted claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) fails to provide leadership opportunities for young people. According to him, such arguments are unfounded, as the party has consistently entrusted key positions to capable youth.

He pointed to figures like Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK), Abu Jinapor, and Francis Asenso-Boakye as examples of young leaders who have been given significant roles within the party and in government.

“The NPP has shown time and again that it values the contributions of its young members,” he said. “Just because the current NDC administration has appointed some young individuals doesn’t mean they are more youth-oriented than the NPP.”

Responding to recent comparisons between the NDC and NPP, Oheneba stressed that the appointment of a young Ashanti Regional Minister by the NDC should not pressure the NPP into making similar moves purely for optics.

He emphasized that while the NPP has many qualified young candidates in the Ashanti Region, the party also relies on the experience of senior members, especially during periods of governance.

He also drew attention to the NDC’s own leadership structure, noting that key national roles such as General Secretary and National Chairman have traditionally been held by older individuals. “If the NDC claims to prioritize youth leadership, they should point to young people in their top party positions,” he challenged.

Oheneba urged young members of the NPP to remain dedicated and loyal, assuring them that their efforts would be rewarded when the party returns to power.

“When the NPP regains power, our youth must be ready to defend their interests and actively seek leadership roles both in the party and in government,” he concluded.
