President John Dramani Mahama has urged the people of Bawku and its surrounding areas to embrace peace and rebuild trust to end the region’s ongoing conflict.

His call comes in the wake of escalating violence, which has claimed approximately 56 lives and prompted the enforcement of a curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Speaking at the 68th Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House on March 6, under the theme “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” Mahama emphasized the importance of unity for the sake of future generations.

“It is time for lasting peace to prevail. Our children deserve a homeland where dreams thrive, not one burdened by conflict. They should inherit a land where markets flourish, not one crippled by fear. Let our schools be filled with learning, not sorrow,” he urged.

He called on residents to rise above past grievances and choose a path of reconciliation, emphasizing, “Let us give renewal and friendship a chance. Let us give peace a chance. This is not about forgetting the past but rising above it.”
