The Ghana Police Service has dismissed recent social media allegations claiming that Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a political activist and leader of the Democracy Hub, was returned to police custody from the Police Hospital due to insufficient funds for his medical care.

In an official statement, the police labeled these allegations as “palpable falsehoods,” asserting they are intended to garner public sympathy for Barker-Vormawor.

They clarified that all medical expenses from his hospital visit were fully covered by the police, in line with their Standard Operating Procedures for detainees.

While the Police Service refrained from disclosing specific financial details due to doctor-patient confidentiality, they firmly rejected claims that Barker-Vormawor had to be rushed to the hospital, calling such reports baseless and urging the public to disregard them.

This clarification comes amidst ongoing debates regarding Barker-Vormawor’s treatment in custody, as he faces charges linked to his activism and public statements.
