Mahama to Sign E-Levy Repeal Bill Today

President’s approval set to end controversial electronic transaction tax

President John Mahama is poised to sign the E-Levy repeal bill into law by Thursday, March 27, according to Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem.

Although Parliament has already passed the bill, it has yet to be forwarded to the President for final approval. Ampem assured that once Mahama assents, the Finance Ministry will swiftly instruct the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to halt E-Levy collections.

“The GRA is ready for the transition, and implementation will be immediate,” Ampem stated.

The E-Levy, introduced in 2022 by the previous administration, faced strong opposition from Ghanaians due to its 1.5% charge on electronic transactions. The repeal is expected to take full effect before the end of March.
