Education in Jeopardy: Some SHS Students Allegedly Bring Knives to Class, Threaten Teachers – Oduefour Nana Asabre

Oduefour Nana Asabre raises alarm over rising indiscipline in Ghana’s Senior High Schools, revealing cases of student gangs, exam malpractice, and threats against educators.

A shocking revelation has emerged about the deteriorating discipline in Ghana’s Senior High Schools (SHSs), as some students allegedly bring knives to class and even threaten teachers.

Oduefour Nana Asabre Pinamang, a newscaster AT Lawson Media and a Senior High School teacher, expressed deep concern over the growing menace of student gangs in SHSs.

Speaking on Ghana Se Sen on Lawson TV/Radio, he lamented that some students not only come to school armed but also challenge their teachers.

He revealed that instances of students physically confronting teachers are becoming alarmingly common.

“If a teacher tries to discipline a student, the headmaster often pleads with the teacher to stop, fearing it could land them in trouble. We are not advocating for beatings, but discipline is necessary,” he stated.

Oduefour further exposed the growing culture of academic dishonesty, where some students rely on leaked exam questions, popularly known as ‘apor’.

The Kumasi Senior High Technical School (KSTS) claimed that if invigilators prevent them from cheating, students retaliate by attacking them and vandalizing school property.

He called for urgent interventions to restore discipline and improve the quality of education in Ghana’s SHSs.
