Security Forces Take Charge as Authorities Work to Prevent Further Violence

The Ghana Police Service, in partnership with the Military, has restored calm in Nkwanta and its environs in the Oti Region after violent communal clashes.

The tragic conflict, believed to stem from a long-standing dispute, claimed five lives and left five others injured.

During the unrest, eight buildings and a shop were destroyed. The injured are receiving medical care, while the deceased have been transported to the morgue for preservation and further investigation.

To build lasting peace, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) engaged local chiefs in phone discussions, urging cooperation with security agencies to maintain order. Meanwhile, the Oti Regional Police Commander has been meeting with community leaders and residents to promote reconciliation.

In a statement dated January 17, Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi reaffirmed the joint commitment of the Police and Military to safeguard the community. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the root causes of the clashes and prevent future violence.
