The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has taken decisive action against Libya for its recent mistreatment of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, resulting in the cancellation of their scheduled AFCON 2025 qualifier.

In a ruling issued on Saturday by Chairman Ousmane Kane, Nigeria has been awarded three points and a 3-0 victory.

Libya has also been fined $50,000, payable within 60 days.

With this decision, Nigeria now sits at 10 points with two matches remaining against Benin Republic and Rwanda in the qualifiers. The Super Eagles only need a draw in their upcoming match against Benin to secure a spot in AFCON.

CAF Statement

Key points from the ruling include:

  1. The Libya Football Federation violated Article 31 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
  2. The match scheduled for October 15 in Benghazi is officially declared a forfeit, with Libya losing 3-0.
  3. Libya must pay a fine of $50,000 within the specified timeframe.
  4. All additional motions from Libya have been dismissed.
