In a dramatic escalation of tensions, Iran launched at least six ballistic missiles targeting U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq on Monday, in retaliation for American airstrikes on its nuclear facilities.
According to Axios, which cited an Israeli official, six missiles were fired at U.S. installations, including the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar — the largest U.S. military presence in the Middle East, hosting over 8,000 troops. AFP and Reuters confirmed that loud explosions were heard across Qatar’s capital, Doha.
Additionally, Haaretz reported that one missile was fired toward a U.S. base in Iraq.
A senior White House official disclosed that both the White House and the Pentagon are “aware of and closely monitoring” threats to Al Udeid Air Base.
No casualties have been reported yet.
This marks Iran’s most significant direct attack on U.S. forces since its 2020 missile strike in response to the killing of General Qasem Soleimani.
The latest attack follows U.S. airstrikes ordered by President Donald Trump on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan — a move that Tehran condemned as “crossing a big red line.”
