Adabraka Market in Accra was rocked on Saturday, November 2, by a shocking daylight robbery that unfolded before startled shoppers.
Four masked gunmen, armed to the teeth, targeted a man in a red Toyota Corolla parked near the bustling market.
Eyewitnesses reported that the robbers approached with weapons drawn, firing multiple shots into the air to scatter the crowd.
In a scene of chaos, shoppers and vendors scrambled for safety, ducking behind stalls as gunfire rang out. The assailants quickly breached the vehicle, seizing large sacks of cash stored inside. Within moments, they loaded the bags into their getaway car and sped off, firing shots to keep bystanders at bay.
One eyewitness described the panic: “We deal in gold here, and when we heard the gunfire, we knew it was trouble. We locked our gate, but they didn’t come our way. They shouted for the boot to be opened and took bags of money from some shops. It all happened so fast.”
Another witness added, “There are many gold shops here. One shop owner had cash in his car, and the robbers just swooped in. This is the second time something like this has happened. The police arrived late; by then, the robbers were long gone in their Toyota Highlander. They even scattered money in the air to distract people.”
The dramatic robbery was captured on video by onlookers and quickly went viral on social media, highlighting the gunmen’s swift and coordinated actions, as well as the widespread fear that engulfed the market.
As of now, the Ghana Police Service has not confirmed specifics about the incident, but the circulated videos have raised serious concerns about safety in the area.
