Bole Faces Fuel Supply Crisis, Leaving Drivers and Riders in Limbo

A growing suspicion of fuel hoarding and anticipated price increases has added to the unease in Bole's fuel shortage crisis

Story Highlights
  • Residents and riders are facing hours-long waits to refuel at the few remaining stations
  • High fuel prices are making daily activities, such as farming and travel, increasingly difficult
  • Amdaway Filling Station is operating extended hours to meet the overwhelming demand despite staffing challenges

Bole and its neighboring communities are facing a critical fuel shortage, with more than five filling stations in the area closed.

The Amdaway Filling Station on the Bole-Wa highway is the only operational station, drawing long queues of over 50 motorcycles and vehicles, with residents waiting hours to refuel.

Motorcycle riders, who rely heavily on petrol for transportation, are particularly impacted, with many opting to buy petrol in gallons or travel more than 18 kilometers to fill their tanks.

Local resident Dari Akwasi suspects some stations may be hoarding fuel in anticipation of price hikes in the new year. He urged the incoming administration to prioritize lowering fuel costs to alleviate transportation difficulties in the Northern regions.

Adam Seidu voiced frustration over the high fuel prices, noting that between GHS 30 and GHS 50 barely fills a motorbike tank, making it hard to carry out daily tasks such as farming and travel.

Despite the challenges, Seidu commended Amdaway Filling Station for offering much-needed relief.

Amdaway’s manager, OKasher, shared that the station has been open for over 12 hours daily to meet the overwhelming demand and assured residents of their commitment to ensuring fuel availability, even with the strain on staff.

As the situation disrupts transportation in the area, residents are hoping for a swift resolution to the ongoing fuel crisis.
