Despite back-to-back wins, Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), believes the Black Stars have room for improvement.
After a disappointing 2024 season, where the Black Stars managed only two wins in 10 games and failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in two decades, the team has bounced back in 2025 with promising results.
During the March international break, Ghana thrashed Chad 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a 3-0 win over Madagascar in Morocco, ending a six-match winless run. These victories have revived Ghana’s hopes of securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Reflecting on the team’s progress, Okraku praised the improvement but stressed that the Black Stars are still a work in progress. “The Black Stars are a work in progress,” he stated in an interview
He also pointed out that the team is yet to reach the heights of its golden era in 2006 and 2010, but he appreciated the unwavering support from Ghanaian fans. “The golden age of the Black Stars in 2006 in Germany and 2010 is yet to spark, but the unbelievable support from Ghanaians has been amazing.”
Looking ahead, the Black Stars will continue their campaign with a four-nation tournament in London in May, followed by crucial qualifiers against Chad and Mali in September, before concluding the World Cup qualification matches against Comoros and the Central African Republic.
