Black Star Experience Starts July with Year-Round Events

A year-long celebration of Ghana’s culture, arts, and tourism begins this summer.

Story Highlights
  • The Black Star Experience officially begins in July 2025
  • It aims to promote Ghanaian culture, boost tourism, attract investments, and create jobs
  • The program features festivals, music concerts, cultural celebrations, and international events

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is gearing up to launch the much-anticipated Black Star Experience this July — a dynamic, year-round celebration of Ghanaian culture, creativity, and community.

GTA CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto announced on Thursday that the initiative is part of a broader government vision to reimagine and elevate Ghana’s tourism, arts, and culture landscape.

“This is more than an event — it’s a movement,” said Houadjeto in an interview with the Ghana News Agency. “We’re curating unforgettable experiences for everyone who steps into Ghana.”

Unlike the diaspora-focused “Beyond the Return,” the Black Star Experience is a globally-minded platform that invites the world to experience the full spectrum of Ghanaian life — from heritage and music to cuisine and fashion.

What’s Coming Up:

  • July: Launch of the Black Star Festival, with events held both in Ghana and internationally.

  • August: PANAFEST and Emancipation Day events in Accra and Cape Coast, complemented by vibrant food fairs and fashion shows.

  • September: Ghana hosts FESTAC Africa for the first time, aligning with UNWTO’s Tourism Month — a celebration of African unity through art, film, culture, youth, and wellness.

  • All Year Long: Expect jazz nights, symphony orchestra shows, gospel and highlife festivals, and major concerts.

According to Houadjeto, the “Black Star Experience” is about showcasing the richness of Ghana’s identity while boosting investment, tourism, and job creation.

“We’re inviting the entire world to come and feel Ghana — its spirit, its people, its energy,” she said. “This is Ghana in full colour.”

Ghanaians and global travellers alike are encouraged to keep an eye out for more exciting announcements through December. Get ready to explore Destination Ghana — vibrant, soulful, and unforgettable.
