  • Case adjourned as proceedings continue in high-profile anti-corruption probe

The High Court in Accra has granted bail to Charles Bissue and Andy Owusu, each in the sum of GHC200,000 with two sureties—one of whom must be justified.

The duo faces 15 charges tied to corruption, including exploiting public office for personal benefit. Both have entered not guilty pleas and have been ordered to surrender their passports to the court registry.

As part of their bail conditions, they are required to report monthly to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). The court has scheduled the next hearing for May 29.

The charges stem from an investigation by the OSP, which alleges that Bissue, formerly the Secretary of the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), and Owusu, conspired in corrupt dealings linked to illegal mining.

According to court filings, Bissue is accused of accepting a GHC15,000 bribe from Benjamin Adjapong via Andy Owusu on or around January 22, 2019, in Accra.
