Joe Biden and Donald Trump have paid heartfelt tributes to former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100.
Carter, the longest-living U.S. president, died on Sunday in Plains, Georgia. Biden honored him as a “man of principle, faith, and humility,” while Trump emphasized the nation’s “debt of gratitude” to Carter for his dedication to improving the lives of all Americans.
Carter, who rose from a peanut farmer to president in 1977, was often remembered for his post-presidency humanitarian efforts, earning him the Nobel Peace Prize.
Following his death, Biden declared a national day of mourning on January 9 and ordered flags to be flown at half-mast for 30 days.
