Bawumia noted that the challenges faced by farmers in Ghana have persisted for too long
- Bawumia aims to provide essential resources and equipment to empower farmers
- He prioritizes irrigation systems to ensure consistent crop cultivation throughout the year
- The initiative is designed to strengthen agriculture's role in Ghana’s economy and improve livelihoods
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has announced an ambitious plan to transform Ghana’s agricultural landscape by establishing mechanisation centres in every district.
This initiative, he stated, will be a cornerstone of his administration’s commitment to addressing the needs of farmers if elected president in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Juapong, Volta Region, Bawumia highlighted the long-standing challenges faced by farmers in Ghana and expressed his resolve to provide essential support and resources to enhance their productivity.
He underscored the vital role of agriculture in Ghana’s economy and the livelihoods of millions.
Bawumia pointed out the necessity of irrigation systems to modernize farming, particularly in drought-prone areas, as many farmers currently depend on rainfall, making them susceptible to climate variability.
To combat these challenges, he pledged to prioritize the development of irrigation infrastructure, enabling year-round cultivation regardless of seasonal rains.
“We are going to support our farmers. Agriculture is my focus. They need irrigation, equipment, tractors, and combined harvesters. I am committed to establishing a mechanisation centre in every district, ensuring our farmers have the tools they need to thrive.”
