Bawumia Pledges Easier Passport Applications Using Ghana Card
Dr. Bawumia aims to integrate technology into public services despite facing criticism regarding economic issues
- Starting in 2025, passport applicants will only need their Ghana Card and payment
- Bawumia emphasizes the role of digitalization in improving government services
- Local leaders express the need for stronger backing of the NPP in future elections
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has highlighted plans to simplify Ghana’s passport application process by using the Ghana Card as the main resource.
Speaking during his campaign in the Nkwanta North constituency, he emphasized that his administration would eliminate bureaucratic obstacles by allowing applicants to use their Ghana Card data.
Renowned for his push towards digitalization, Bawumia continues to advocate for technology as a tool for national development, despite facing criticism regarding economic issues.
He believes that leveraging digital solutions can significantly enhance the lives of Ghanaians, particularly by making the passport application process more efficient.
“We recognize that many people want passports, but the current process is cumbersome. My plan is straightforward: applicants will only need to submit their Ghana Card and pay the necessary fees, without having to fill out forms starting in 2025.”
During a separate visit to the Akan constituency, local leaders expressed disappointment over the lack of strong support for the NPP in previous elections, despite the party’s contributions to the establishment of the Oti Region.
