Bawumia Launches GoRide: Ghana’s Homegrown Ride-Hailing Revolution
A Game-Changer for Local Drivers and the Economy
- GoRide offers a low 10% commission
- The app aligns with government efforts to strengthen Ghanaian enterprises and boost local economic growth
- Each ride contributes to conserving foreign exchange
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially launched GoRide, Ghana’s first locally developed ride-hailing app.
In collaboration with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), GoRide aims to empower local taxi drivers who are facing tough competition from foreign ride-hailing services.
During the launch event in Accra on October 30, the focus was on the app’s commitment to providing fairer conditions for drivers and creating a sustainable alternative to international platforms.
With a competitive commission rate of just 10%, GoRide enables drivers to keep more of their earnings, enhancing their financial stability and supporting their families.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted that GoRide is part of a broader government strategy to uplift local businesses. “This initiative is about restoring dignity to our drivers and ensuring their success,” he stated, reinforcing the government’s dedication to fostering local enterprise and economic growth through the profits generated by GoRide.
The Vice President also emphasized the economic advantages of a homegrown platform.
“By utilizing GoRide, we conserve foreign exchange, nurture local wealth, and bolster our national economy. Every ride contributes directly to Ghana’s financial health, paving the way for a more sustainable future,” he added.
Available on both Android and iOS, the GoRide app is set to transform convenience and accessibility in Ghana’s transportation landscape while promoting economic self-reliance and wealth retention.
