Bawumia Dominates Ashanti with 75.9% as Mahama Trails – Prof. Smart Sarpong
Professor Smart Sarpong’s survey shows a clear lead for Bawumia in Ashanti, but highlights a challenge in hitting the NPP’s regional goal
- Bawumia holds 75.9% in Ashanti
- Mahama leads Greater Accra with 52.3%
- Other candidates receive minimal support in both region
Professor Smart Sarpong, Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University, revealed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, is currently leading the Ashanti Region with 75.9% of the votes.
However, this falls short of the party’s target of 85% support in their stronghold. Meanwhile, John Dramani Mahama, presidential candidate for the NDC, has secured 22.1% in the region.
In contrast, Mahama leads in the Greater Accra region with 52.3%, followed by Bawumia at 40.5%. Other candidates, including Nana Kwame Bediako (The New Force) and Alan Kyerematen (Movement for Change), have garnered minimal support.
Professor Sarpong’s poll also showed a narrow lead for Bawumia nationwide, with 49.1%, compared to Mahama’s 45.8%. He concluded that the 2024 election could likely be decided in the first round, with the NPP holding a slight edge.
