  • Attack believed to be connected to the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy dispute
  • Total fatalities in the conflict rise to 54 since October 2024

Two lives were tragically lost, and a passenger bus was reduced to ashes in a brazen attack on travelers in Walewale.

The ambush occurred in front of the ADB Bank as the bus, en route from Kumasi to Garu, fell victim to armed assailants.

This incident is believed to be tied to the ongoing Chieftaincy conflict in Bawku, which continues to claim lives. Just days earlier, on February 11, 2025, a similar attack on the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway near Wulugu left three passengers dead and their bus torched.

Adding to the chaos, a gun battle in Bawku on February 12 claimed three more lives, intensifying fears in the already volatile region.

Since the conflict’s resurgence in October 2024, the death toll has now reached a grim 54, with no signs of resolution in sight.
