A strong police and military presence has been deployed at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, launches a crucial mediation process aimed at resolving the ongoing Bawku conflict.

The tight security measures were put in place to protect the dignitaries, traditional leaders, and key stakeholders who have gathered at the palace for the peace talks.
The mediation comes amidst ongoing violence and a prolonged chieftaincy dispute that has kept tensions high in Bawku.
The Asantehene’s involvement is seen as a pivotal moment in bridging the divide between the warring factions and fostering peace.

In an interview, Sarfo Kantanka, a historian at the Manhyia Palace, emphasized that strict security arrangements were necessary to ensure the smooth running of the talks. “Conflicts require heightened security, and the presence of security personnel is vital,” he explained.
Kantanka also highlighted that this mediation will involve both open and private sessions. “While previous discussions have been public, this time, some meetings will be confidential, and others will be open,” he added.
