Bawku Curfew Extended, Arms Ban Enforced

Interior Minister extends nighttime restrictions and reinforces ban on firearms to curb ongoing conflicts

The Interior Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has extended the curfew in Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas based on recommendations from the Upper East Regional Security Council.

The renewed curfew, effective Monday, March 3, 2025, remains from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., with a review expected after a week.

The government has also reaffirmed the ban on offensive weapons, warning that violators will face arrest and prosecution.

Bawku has been under curfew since November 2021 due to persistent chieftaincy conflicts that have led to multiple casualties.
