Barcelona’s 125th anniversary celebrations were overshadowed by a surprise 3-1 loss to struggling Las Palmas at home.

The visitors took the lead through former Barca striker Sandro, who scored with a low shot across goal, prompting boos and whistles from the disappointed home crowd.

Barcelona captain Raphinha quickly equalized with an unstoppable low drive into the net, but Las Palmas regained the advantage when Wolves loanee Fabio Silva netted his fifth league goal of the season.

Silva slotted into the bottom corner after a brilliant pass from Javi Munoz.

The defeat sees Las Palmas rise to 14th in La Liga, while Barcelona’s lead at the top is at risk. Real Madrid can close the gap to just one point if they beat Getafe on Sunday.

The loss marked Barcelona’s first defeat to Las Palmas at home since September 1971 and left them without a win in three consecutive league matches.

The match was further marred by an injury to Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, who was stretchered off in the 26th minute after a collision with Sandro.

Despite firing 26 shots, the most they’ve managed in a league match this season, Barcelona failed to trouble Las Palmas’ defense. Raphinha’s free-kick was expertly saved by goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, while Ferran Torres and Pablo Torre also saw their efforts denied.
