Jennifer Oforiwaa Prempeh, popularly known as Jennifer Queen and a Deputy National Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed strong disapproval of Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to reject the Majority Caucus’s request to reconvene Parliament before the December elections.

The Majority, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, had proposed an emergency session on November 28 and 29, citing urgent government business.

However, Speaker Bagbin declined, emphasizing in a November 26 memo that the focus during this period should remain on election preparations and voter engagement.

Reacting on Lawson TV/Radio’s Election Home program, Jennifer Queen described the decision as surprising and disappointing, calling it a “serious indictment” on the Speaker’s leadership.

She argued that Bagbin’s refusal undermines the Supreme Court’s authority and tarnishes his image as a statesman.

“Bagbin has disgraced the whole country. When did the Supreme Court ruling come? If he had any intention to recall Parliament, he would have done it. This action is shameful,” she said.

She also pointed to the government’s financial support during Speaker Bagbin’s illness, emphasizing that he should have acted with greater responsibility.

“Government spent $4.8 million on his medical care. If nothing else, he should behave like a statesman,” she added.

Jennifer Queen concluded by cautioning members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), stating that they do not have a monopoly on power or influence.
