Police in Upper Bobikuma are on a manhunt for 48-year-old farmer Stephen Alartey, accused of brutally killing his wife, Aku Motso (37), and daughter, Ophelia Alartey (7), near Esaase in the Agona West District, Central Region.

Reports indicate that on Thursday, December 12, 2024, Alartey invited his wife and three children, previously living with their grandmother at Agona Kwaman, to join him in his village. On the way, he allegedly deviated from the usual bush path and attacked Aku and Ophelia with a cement block, killing them instantly.

A hunter who heard the commotion and approached the scene was also violently assaulted. Alartey reportedly struck him with a cement block, slashed his head with a cutlass, and stole his gun before escaping.

Two of Alartey’s children witnessed the horrific events and alerted the authorities. The victims’ bodies have been deposited at the Agona Swedru Municipal Government Hospital for autopsy, while the police appeal for information to apprehend the suspect.
