Parliament will begin the vetting of the first batch of ministerial nominees put forward by President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, January 13, 2025.

The vetting process will kick off with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam and current Majority Leader, who has been nominated as the Minister-designate for Finance. Forson’s nomination comes at a critical time, as Ghana grapples with economic challenges such as high inflation, increasing public debt, and calls for sustainable reforms.

The vetting will be conducted by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, which was established on January 9, 2025.

Following Forson, John Abdulai Jinapor, nominated as the Minister-designate for Energy, will undergo scrutiny. Jinapor, an experienced politician and former Deputy Minister of Energy, is tasked with addressing key issues in Ghana’s energy sector, including unreliable power supply, the development of renewable energy, and the mounting debt in the sector.

His vetting will offer insights into his strategies for stabilising and transforming the energy sector to support the country’s economic growth.

The final nominee to be vetted will be Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, who has been nominated as the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice. Ayine, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, is a seasoned legal professional, academic, and former Deputy Attorney-General, known for his expertise in constitutional law and governance.

As the government’s chief legal advisor, Ayine is expected to play a critical role in promoting the rule of law, implementing legal reforms, and ensuring justice for all Ghanaians.
