The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has expressed confidence in President John Dramani Mahama’s ability to reset the country’s economy through the 2025 budget.

According to him, the budget will serve as a pivotal tool in stabilizing the Ghanaian economy and laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth and development.

Presenting the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament Dr. Hayford explained that the 2025 budget under Mahama’s leadership would focus on addressing the critical challenges that have plagued the country, particularly in terms of inflation, unemployment, and the general cost of living

He emphasized that the budget would not only aim to ease the immediate economic hardships faced by the citizenry but also prioritize long-term recovery by implementing policies that would foster job creation, increase local production, and promote investment in key sectors of the economy.

A Vision for Economic Reset

Dr. Ato Forson highlighted that Mahama’s economic vision for 2025 is centered around the concept of “resetting” the economy.

He argued that the government would work to restore macroeconomic stability and ensure that economic growth is inclusive, benefiting all sectors of society.

The plan, according to Dr. Forson, involves a robust mix of fiscal discipline, targeted interventions, and strategic investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture.

The Finance Minister underscored that Mahama’s government would focus on stimulating local industries and increasing Ghana’s export capacity. This would involve providing support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), creating an enabling environment for private sector growth, and reducing the dependence on foreign imports.

By fostering a more self-sufficient economy, Dr. Forson believes the country would be better positioned to weather global economic fluctuations and increase its resilience to external shocks.

Job Creation at the Forefront

One of the central aspects of the 2025 budget, according to Ato Forson, is its focus on job creation. Ghana’s youth unemployment rate has been a growing concern, and Dr. Forson emphasized that Mahama is committed to addressing this issue head-on.

He pointed out that the budget will prioritize investments in education and skills development to better equip young people for the job market.

In addition, Dr. Forson mentioned that the government plans to invest heavily in sectors such as agriculture, technology, and infrastructure—industries that are known to create sustainable jobs for both skilled and unskilled workers. This, he believes, will provide a more diverse employment landscape and help reduce unemployment in both urban and rural areas.

A Balanced Approach to Social Support

In addition to its focus on economic growth, the 2025 budget is expected to address the welfare of vulnerable populations in Ghana. Ato Forson emphasized that Mahama’s government is dedicated to creating social safety nets for the most disadvantaged groups, including the elderly, women, and children. The budget will include provisions for healthcare, education, and social protection programs to ensure that no one is left behind in the country’s development.

“Economic growth cannot be meaningful if it does not improve the lives of the average Ghanaian,” Forson remarked. “Our approach will be inclusive, ensuring that the benefits of growth are felt by all Ghanaians, especially the vulnerable.”

Restoring Trust in Government

According to the Finance Minister, Mahama’s leadership will bring much-needed confidence and trust back to the Ghanaian economy. He noted that Mahama has a track record of successfully managing the economy during his previous tenure as president, navigating the country through turbulent times and achieving notable progress in key sectors.

As Mahama prepares to implement the 2025 budget, the Finance Minister reassured Ghanaians that President Mahama’s government will prioritize accountability and transparency.

This, he argued, would help restore faith in the government’s ability to manage the country’s resources effectively and deliver on its promises.
