The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, has informed the media that five suspects are currently in police custody, with two vehicles seized, while a manhunt for Cosmas Maduabuchukwu continues.

During a press conference held today, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander revealed that over the past few years, the Ashanti Regional Police have received multiple reports of individuals who, after withdrawing large sums of money from banks, were followed and had their vehicles broken into.

According to the commander, these thefts mostly occurred when victims left their vehicles unattended.

DCOP Mr. Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe disclosed that, based on intelligence gathered, two suspect vehicles—a gold Toyota Highlander (GT 2471-14) and a black Toyota Highlander (GX 7124-12)—were identified as part of the theft syndicate.

The Regional Commander further noted that on June 19, 2025, operatives from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) arrested three of the five suspects associated with the thefts: Russell Ekenze (29), Francis Friday (49), and Linus Agwazie (51).

The police told the media that key suspect Cosmas Maduabuchukwu was injured during an attempted arrest and is currently on the run, having sought refuge at a drinking bar in Kenyase.

However, his associates, Gifty Ozurumbam and Gladys Ibrahim, were arrested for obstructing police investigations.

“All five suspects are in custody, with two vehicles impounded, while the manhunt for Maduabuchukwu continues,” the Ashanti Regional Police Commander announced.

The commander also mentioned that during questioning, the suspects confessed to committing similar crimes in parts of Accra. Consequently, the Ashanti Regional Police will liaise with the Greater Accra Regional Police to assist in extending the investigation.
