Asante Kotoko has called on its arch-rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, and all Ghanaian football clubs to unite in the fight against violence in the sport, following the tragic death of Kotoko supporter Nana Pooley.
In a bold move, the club announced a suspension of all football activities in Ghana until the Ghana Football Association (GFA) takes decisive action to bring those responsible for Pooley’s fatal stabbing to justice.
The incident occurred during Kotoko’s match against Nsoatreman FC, sparking outrage within the football community. In a press statement released on Tuesday, Asante Kotoko stressed that this is not just a club issue but a matter that affects the entire Ghanaian football community.
The club urged all parties to set aside rivalries and join forces to address the growing threat of violence and hooliganism that tarnishes the integrity of the game.
Asante Kotoko emphasized their commitment to attending the upcoming GFA meeting on Thursday, hoping to turn this painful moment into a catalyst for change in the sport.
While mourning the loss of Pooley, the club expressed appreciation for the swift response by the police, and they remain hopeful that justice will prevail.
