Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has urged Ghanaians to rally behind the newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under President John Dramani Mahama.
Following a peaceful 2024 general election, which saw Mahama return to the presidency after eight years in opposition, Gyan took to social media to congratulate the new government.
He emphasized the importance of putting national interests above political party lines.
“Let’s support the government. Any government that comes to power deserves our backing. When we allow prices to skyrocket, with things sold for GHC 1000 that should cost GHC 50, the whole country suffers,” Gyan stated, stressing the need for collective responsibility in addressing national issues.
The football legend also highlighted the importance of collaboration and urged citizens to set aside political differences. “Ghana has spoken. Let’s put aside party politics. If your party has won, focus on supporting the government. We, as citizens, will do our part,” he said.
Gyan also emphasized the role of attitude change in national progress. “We must change our attitudes and support the new government. Let’s congratulate them, and that’s my message,” he added.
He urged Ghanaians to avoid undermining the new administration and instead contribute positively to the country’s development.
“As responsible citizens, let’s congratulate the NDC and offer our support, rather than sabotaging them,” Gyan concluded.
