Arsenal Football Club has confirmed that key defender Gabriel will miss the rest of the current season after requiring surgery to repair a hamstring injury. The news broke earlier today in the UK.

The Brazilian international was forced off the pitch during the first half of Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Fulham at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

The club has stated that the 27-year-old is aiming to be fully recovered and available for the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

“Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season,” Arsenal announced.

Gabriel’s absence is a significant blow to Arsenal as they enter the final stretch of the season. Statistics from Premier League Injuries indicate a notable drop in Arsenal’s win percentage when the Brazilian defender is not in the lineup. Since his Premier League debut, Arsenal have won approximately 63.5% of the games he has played, compared to only around 40.9% of the matches he has missed.

Hamstring injuries continue to be a concern in the Premier League, with this being the 119th such injury reported so far this season. Last season saw a five-year high of 163 hamstring injuries.

Currently, Arsenal sit second in the Premier League table, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool with eight games remaining.

Adding to their challenges, the Gunners are also preparing for a crucial Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid. The first leg will take place in north London on Tuesday, April 8th (at 8:00 PM UK time), with the return leg scheduled for Wednesday, April 16th (at 8:00 PM UK time) at the Bernabeu.

This injury to a key player like Gabriel will undoubtedly test Arsenal’s squad depth as they fight for Premier League points and aim for success in the Champions League. Football fans in Kumasi and across Ghana will be watching closely to see how the Gunners cope without their influential defender.
