- Ashanti Region has seen no new MoMo robberies since the arrests
The Ashanti Regional Police Command says recent arrests of key suspects behind a string of deadly Mobile Money (MoMo) robberies have significantly restored peace and security in the region.
Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, confirmed that two of the suspects currently on trial have admitted to murder and robbery charges.
Their confessions were obtained during police interrogation, conducted in the presence of independent witnesses.
The suspects are connected to the violent robberies that led to the tragic deaths of Patricia Nimako and another mobile money vendor in Kwadaso.
According to DSP Ahianyo, one of the key figures in the gang, Martin Amoah, popularly known as Baba Macho, was arrested at his hideout in Dodowa.
He has since confessed to shooting and killing a victim at Krofrom.
Following his confession, Baba Macho led police to his hometown, Diaso, where he pointed out the location of the firearm used in the crime.
The weapon according to DSP Ahianyo has been retrieved and sent to the police forensic laboratory for ballistic examination.
DSP Ahianyo stated that since the arrest of the suspects, no new robberies targeting MoMo vendors have been reported in the Ashanti Region—a clear indication that the criminal network responsible has been dismantled.
“The region is relatively calm now,” he said. “These arrests have brought a significant level of relief to residents and vendors who were living in fear.”
The suspects are currently on trial and expected to reappear in court today, as police continue to assure the public of their commitment to maintaining law and order across the region.
