The Generational Rights Protection Society has taken a bold step in its campaign against illegal mining—commonly known as galamsey—by projecting striking visuals of environmental degradation onto a large screen in front of Ghana’s presidential palace, the Jubilee House.

Although the group has yet to submit its petition to the presidency, Monday’s demonstration served as a powerful opening to their three-day protest.

The day included a visit to the Ghana Police Service headquarters, where Co-Convenor Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah offered a traditional prayer, calling for divine strength and guidance for law enforcement officers in their battle against illegal mining operations.

“We need to pray for our police to have the strength and wisdom to help end this galamsey menace,” Mensah stated.

The protest is set to continue, with participants gathering again at the Obra Spot in Accra on day two. The final day will culminate in the formal delivery of a petition to the presidency, demanding a concrete and transparent plan to eliminate illegal mining in Ghana.

The Generational Rights Protection Society reaffirmed its dedication to protecting the environment and ensuring accountability from national leaders for the sake of future generations.
