Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has stated he will discuss Alejandro Garnacho’s reaction after the winger was substituted during the first half of their 3-2 victory over Ipswich.

Garnacho was replaced by defender Noussair Mazraoui just before halftime, following a red card issued to Ipswich’s Patrick Dorgu.

Instead of joining his teammates on the bench, Garnacho went straight to the dressing room, appearing to want to remove his soaked shirt due to the heavy rain at Old Trafford. It remains unclear whether he returned for the second half.

“I am going to talk with Garnacho about that,” Amorim confirmed.

This incident follows a previous disciplinary action in December, when Garnacho, along with Marcus Rashford, was dropped for the Manchester City derby due to poor training performance and attitude. While Garnacho quickly returned to the first team, Rashford is now on loan at Aston Villa.

Amorim clarified that the substitution was a tactical decision prompted by the red card, allowing the team to maintain their defensive structure. “The thinking was that we would play 5-3-1. That is a risk because he [Garnacho] is the one who can play one-v-one in pace,” Amorim explained. “We had to choose someone to go out. It was my choice.”

He also addressed the comparison to Rashford’s situation, attributing Garnacho’s reaction to the cold and wet conditions.
