Amoakohene Overwhelmed as Ashanti Residents Cry for Power Stability
Dr. Frank Amoakohene says he is overwhelmed with calls from frustrated residents as persistent power outages disrupt daily life in the Ashanti Region.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has expressed frustration over mounting pressure from residents due to the region’s persistent power outages, with the worst incident occurring over the weekend.
For weeks, residents have voiced concerns about the unstable power supply, which has severely disrupted businesses and households. Dr. Amoakohene revealed that he has been flooded with calls urging him to intervene in the worsening power crisis.
“Sunday, March 16, was particularly severe, as power outages affected almost all districts and municipalities. I’ve received numerous complaints from communities expecting solutions to the crisis,” he lamented.
The widespread frustration has prompted the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, to visit the region and engage stakeholders in search of solutions.
He attributed the crisis to structural weaknesses in the power sector inherited by the current administration but assured that measures are being implemented to stabilize supply.
Efforts to resolve the issue include upgrading power infrastructure, with GRIDCo installing major transformers and ECG undertaking significant projects to enhance electricity distribution.
These interventions are expected to bring much-needed relief to Kumasi and the broader Ashanti Region.
