A joyous occasion turned to sorrow last Friday in Akyem Anamase, Eastern Region, when Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba, a Station Officer at the local police station, collapsed and died during his wedding ceremony.
The groom, who was waiting for his bride, Florence Debrah, at the Anamase Hotel, began to feel dizzy shortly after arriving at the venue. Before anyone could assist, he fell to the floor and was rushed to the Anamase Clinic, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The heartbreaking incident shocked the hundreds of guests, including police officers who had traveled from across the country to celebrate the union.
The event, once filled with excitement, turned somber as food and drinks prepared for the celebration remained untouched.
The groom’s family, who had come from the Northern Region, arranged for the body to be taken to the Oda Government Hospital for an autopsy.
The entire community is in mourning, and the loss has overshadowed the usual Christmas festivities, leaving residents grieving this unexpected tragedy.
