President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo recently reflected on the monumental impact of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, asserting that no amount of criticism could erase the undeniable data backing the success of the initiative.

Speaking during his final State of the Nation Address on January 3, 2025, President Akufo-Addo expressed pride in the transformative strides made in education, emphasizing that the Free SHS policy has been permanently embedded in Ghana’s history.

He underscored its critical role in increasing access to secondary education, enabling over 5.7 million students to pursue their dreams without financial barriers.

The Free SHS policy, launched in 2017, offers free tuition, boarding, and meals for students in public senior high schools, helping many from disadvantaged backgrounds access education.

Despite challenges like overcrowded classrooms and delayed funding, President Akufo-Addo celebrated the lasting success and significant improvements across all subjects that have been achieved under the program.
