Akufo-Addo Gov’t Did Not ‘Criminally Mismanage’ Economy — Amin Adam Counters Mahama

Former Finance Minister challenges accusations of 'criminal' economic mismanagement, insists the economy was strong when handed over.

Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has refuted accusations by former President John Dramani Mahama that the Akufo-Addo administration mismanaged Ghana’s economy in a “criminal” manner.

In an interview, Dr. Amin Adam argued that the economy’s fundamentals were solid when the previous administration handed over power.

He claimed that the current government intentionally painted a bleak picture of the economy to justify its stringent policies and gain public sympathy.

According to him, the portrayal of an economic crisis was a strategy to secure support for harsh policy measures.

“They wanted to justify their tough policies by claiming they inherited a broken economy,” Dr. Amin Adam asserted. “However, all evidence indicates that we left behind a strong economy.”
