Accra Submerged Again: Heavy Rains Bring City to a Standstill
Torrential afternoon rain leaves roads impassable and commuters stranded across the capital

- Nearly 3 hours of heavy rain flooded major parts of Accra during rush hour
- Areas like Weija, Kaneshie, and Adabraka saw roads submerged and vehicles stranded
- Residents are advised to stay indoors due to health risks from contaminated floodwaters
A heavy rainfall lasting nearly three hours has once again brought widespread flooding to Accra, throwing the city into chaos and severely disrupting movement and daily life.
The storm, which began around 3 PM—right in the midst of the evening rush—intensified the struggles of commuters and residents alike.
Hard-hit areas include Weija, Kaneshie, Adabraka, parts of Tema, Adentan-Dodowa, and other neighborhoods across the capital, where roads have become rivers, vehicles are stranded, and access is nearly impossible.
Authorities are urging residents in affected zones to remain indoors and avoid walking through floodwaters, which pose serious health risks from contamination and waterborne diseases.
