Accra Painter Jailed for 3 Years for Stealing Graphic Designer’s Laptop

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Kelvin Boateng, a painter, to three years of hard labour for stealing an HP laptop belonging to a graphic designer.

The convict received three-year sentences for both unlawful entry and theft, to run concurrently.

According to Police Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, the incident occurred on December 31, 2024, in La, a suburb of Accra, where the complainant, Dennis Appau, worked as a graphic designer.

Boateng, who worked as a painter but resided in Agbogbloshie, scaled the office’s fence wall, stole the laptop, and attempted to escape.

A witness spotted Boateng carrying the stolen laptop and raised the alarm. The thief hid the device in a nearby uncompleted building but was apprehended by the complainant and other witnesses.

The laptop was retrieved, and Boateng was handed over to the police.

He confessed to the crime during investigations and was subsequently prosecuted.
